Yes, you can use it at Lil' Learners Academy. Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast runs the Child Care Scholarships that many Houston families call NCI, and we accept them.

Two names, one program

You may hear "NCI" from friends and family. Workforce Solutions calls the same help Child Care Scholarships. Use the official name when you apply, and use either name with us.

Three things to know first

  • The school does not approve anyone. Workforce Solutions makes that decision.
  • There is a wait list right now, according to Workforce Solutions, so apply early.
  • The income limits change every year. Check this year’s limits on the official page.

From applying to your first day here

  1. Create your application onlineStart at the state’s child care portal.
  2. Collect your documentsThese include 13 weeks of income for each person in your home who works, and proof of your address. See the full list.
  3. Hear back from the officeThe office has 20 days once it has everything from you. If your name is on the wait list, it will contact you when your name comes up.
  4. Tell them you picked usTell Workforce Solutions you want Lil' Learners Academy. Then call (713) 779-5437 so we can look for a space for your child.

What does NCI mean for daycare in Houston?
NCI is a common Houston word for help with the cost of child care. The program’s official name now is Child Care Scholarships, and families apply through Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast.
Can I use NCI or a Child Care Scholarship at Lil' Learners Academy?

Can the school tell me if I qualify?
No. Only Workforce Solutions can tell you that. It looks at income and household size, and at why you need care: a job, school or training, or a job search.
Where do I apply?
Everything starts online at the state’s child care portal. For help with it, the scholarship office takes calls at 713-334-5980 and texts at 346-249-7700. It is open weekdays from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
How long does approval take?
The office has 20 days to process your case once it has all your documents. Workforce Solutions also says there is a wait list now, and that it will contact you when your name comes up. So it is best not to wait to apply.
